YAHWEH GLORY!

“When Seth grew up, he had a son and named him Enosh.  At that time people first began to worship the LORD (YAHWEH) by name.” Genesis 4:26  NLT

Do you remember the last scene in the classic TV show, “HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS?”  The grinch leans over the cliff to listen to Whoville cry out their woes after discovering all of Christmas had been stolen, but instead of woes, the citizens of Whoville come out singing….  (I have never quite determined the words of thier song after all these years.)   But as I listen to it now I just sing “YAHWEH GLORY!”  I sing these words because in my imagination I hear these words coming from Seth and his people as they performed the first act of corporate worship.

Whovile sang though all tangible gifts were stolen.  Paul worshipped though imprisoned.

“About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭16:25‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Seth called on and worshipped the name of YAHWEH before there were Levitical singers, before the psalms of David were written, before Fannie Mae Crosby penned “Blessed Assurance,” and before Hillsong sang, “Shout to the Lord.”

This first act of public worship, “people,” was primal for sure, but it was also pure because God memorialized the act for all generations in His written word. There were no instruments, no keyboards, no drums, just a cry out to the LORD – YAHWEH.  Seth’s was the line who would carry out the worship of the ONE TRUE GOD.  This cry of worship was an antidote to the increasing sin of Cain’s lineage.  Cain was the first to organize and build a city.  Cain’s geneology contributed to the arts and crafts and metal working, but Seth’s lineage gave us worship.

I wonder, did God smile as the sound of His name rose to the heights of heaven and even the throne room of “THE GREAT I AM?”

“For the LORD takes delight in his people; He crowns the humble with victory.”  Psalm 149:4  NIV

I imagine HIS toes tapping to the beat of Seth’s praise.  Worship had returned to the courts of the LORD.  YAHWEH GLORY filled the halls of heaven.  Murder had darkened the ground of the earth, but Seth’s worship lit up and filled the heavenlies.

God the self-exitant one, had revealed this character trait to Seth.  Seth had to worship the Ancient of Days; he couldn’t help but not.  He was created for this.  This first worship service was his purpose in life.  This is what he was wired for.  God delighted in this call, I am sure of it.  Why else would He have immortalized this act in His written word?

His family, his clan, his people invoked the name of the LORD, and the darkness that had shrouded the earth after the first murder disappated.  The definition of invoke is “to call for with earnest desire.”  Did they loose their voices as the cried out with earnest desire the name “YAHWEH?”  Can’t you imagine the scene? All of Seth’s family has gathered in the open surrounded by the great creation of God, underneath the vast star filled sky, the majestic mountains surrounding them.  With one voice the cry “YAHWEH GLORY” over and over again appealing to I AM THAT I AM.

God had a remnant that worshipped Him.  Father and Son delighted in the call to  of praise that Seth spurred his family to.  The Spirit of God rested on Seth empowering him to cry out to YAHWEH.  The Spirit of God summoned Seth to worship.  YAHWEH GLORY spilled from Seth soul.  If he didn’t cry out the mountains and the hills would.

Seth walked with God.

Take time today to cry out “YAHWEH GLORY!!!”
