Day 18 – Are we there yet?

I walked into Kevin’s office and sat down. “So guess what?” I said timidly. “We have an opportunity to serve with our family in Ethiopia. What do you think?” “Sounds awesome” Kevin encouraged. “What’s the plan?” “Yeah. About that. There is no devoloped plan as of yet.”

All the while on the plane trip over, my thoughts were a slur of questions. “I’m kinda old to be doing this Lord? What’s the plan Lord? Am I hearing you correctly Lord? This is crazy Lord.”

My excuses and questions kept coming as we sat together with family, in-laws, brothers, and sisters, all approaching midlife or at the top of midlife about to descend downhill.

Again, “This is crazy Lord. I can’t possibly write for You. You do know I didn’t get a degree in English grammar or even take a writing class. You do know that right Lord?”

I know. They aren’t the words of Mary, “May it be to me as You have said.” They are more like the words of Zechariah. I can’t claim to be as trusting as Mary, but I can say without a doubt, “When the Lord gives you an assignment, He will send people to walk alongside of you who have been given the same crazy assignment.”

That is what He does. God adds to our number. He gives one assignment using many to perform different functions toward one goal.

I am so thankful for the body of Christ. I need the great big family of God. We all do. Spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ is too massive of an undertaking for just one soul.

“And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.” Acts 2:47

God sends us friends who affirm us and confirm in us that we are on the right path.

Today I just want to thank all those who walk alongside of me. The list is long and distinguished. I can’t even begin to name them all and for fear of missing anyone I won’t. But know this: the top of the list begins with God who designs and nets together His family. My husband Kevin and from there I go on and on.

Look around. Who has God placed in your life to walk alongside of you on this assignment?

  1. I am so grateful to have such a great friend in my sister-in-law, Through the years we have taken on different assignments God has called us to and just like the people long ago, they didn’t really understand the whole plan of God, but trusted Him enough to walk with Him. I’m with Kellye! Way to many people to name who have walked beside me to Mexico, Brazil, morningside and Ethiopia. I just praise God that He put a desire in their heart also! The desire God puts in each of our hearts are deep!! Just start walking with Him and He will show you His glory

  2. There is no way I could mention all the friends and family who walked beside me and helped guide me. But today I’m going to thank 2, Frank and Jimbo, great friends who were always quick with a word of encouragement always supportive. Both were quirky in their unique way, both were strong opinionated guys who gave you the truth without sugar coating it. I will always be thankful for their strong bonds of friendship. Friends like this don’t come around everyday and I am thankful God interjected them into my life, it was much better because of it.
